I hope to buy an isolated property in Devon soon. My question is how do I get Broadband apart from down a BT telephone line??
Are there any other ways of getting a decent internet service??
Thanks

I presume the only other way is via your mobile provider i.e. 3G or 4G.

We live off-grid in Catalunya and we get our internet and phone line via a microwave satellite system. There must be similar systems in the UK for areas where there isn't a good mobile phone signal.

Until recently I couldn't get acceptable Internet via landline or mobile so I bit the bullet and bought a satellite service from Tooway. It cost around £60 per month and was not great. For large files, download speeds were around 5 Mb/s and uploads about 1Mb/s. Surfing the web and dealing with small files was slow as there is a lot of latency in the system. Also at peak times, it was clear that contention became an issue and speeds dropped significantly.
Eventually we got fibre to the cabinet and the landline improved enough to drop the satellite. Unless it's vital for you, I can't really recommend the system.
In some areas, there is a wireless option that small specialist suppliers can provide. These can have very good speeds judging by a friend's experience.

Some great advice here. I work for a mobile network that is also an broadband supplier. You will he able to get something out there but if I was you I would check the postcode on a broadband checker. If it's rubbish then go there with your phone and see if you get 4G , if both are bad ask the locals what they do. Satellite of small providers can work but are pricey.
One of the mobile networks has a contract with the emergency services to provide 4g everywhere in the next few years so in theory that could solve everyone's problems...

And now, Harry, let us step out into the night and pursue that flighty temptress, adventure.

You might check locally to see if the community is doing one of those self install fibre systems any time soon.

Check out the mobile phone signal.
Three in particular have had a couple of decent mobile broadband deals lately.
Like £8 / month for 20gb or £14 / month for 40gb.
