Hope you enjoy the read Jim - The blog is kind of wierd because it puts the last post first so if you are reading from the beginning you have to start at the bottom and work up - I numbered the days to make it easier.....
We got through Russian border into Ukraine yesterday - 5 hours but no hassle just lots of traffic.
First impressions of Ukraine... Nice people (roads not brilliant - potholes and bumps) and nice countryside so far.

On the whole trip we haven't been out for a days rain a few showers here and there but nothing for more than an hour
By the the time we reach the channel tunnel i think we shall want home so bad that any weather will not stop us.

Re: RTW
We are both home now , have millions of photos and hours of video here's just a short edit of the Transfagarasan in Romania made famous by top gear

To sum up you can go round the world on any bike you like the first 4 bikes we saw coming from the west that we spoke to in Vladivostok were 4 harley's two from Finland and two from Holland. The R1200GS we went on performed faultlessly, not even a puncture, i had a seal changed in USA on the final drive, but it was not the lower part of the drive and the mechanic said it would have gone on for thousands of miles.
You do not need any special gear and you do not need any special bike, if you want to do it it's there for the taking with whatever you have now .
