On a ride a week or two ago in the lakes and dales,it seemed to me that there was more than usual rabbit road kill they littered the roads,and even seen I live rabbit at the side of the road walking slow and I would say it had the puffy eye symptom of myxomatosis.Can anyone shine any light on this or is it just a seasonal thing.i hope its not myxomatosis.

I comes round regularly, about every one to two years, and is to be frank a horrible way for any animal to die. There is a small amount of rabbits said to be surviving it now though.

I walk my dogs year round and get to see the rabbit population grow and I can almost guarantee when it's going to come through, I get to see loads of rabbits suffering from it.

It's a cruel disease and when the popuation density in any area goes beyond a certain level it seems to come back again. Keeps the foxes well fed I suppose , as they pick off the weakend individuals, so good for the Farmers chickens. Latest countryside trend is starving young buzzards calling as the Red Kites push them out.

Myxi in the Cotswolds, but my mate's whippet is doing his best to put them out of their misery. The wife's poodle isn't quite quick enough yet. Used to see upto a dozen Buzzards circling in these parts some years back, but very few now the Red Kites have ventured out this way. I guess that's nature, with a little help from mankind for you.
