New Bike for the TET

Evening all, I've been thinking about a new bike for a while and reckon it might be time. I'd like a bike to do the whole of the TET spread over a number of years. Riding solo with camping gear so light enough that I can pick up when it has a lie down and something I can ride in vague comfort to get to where I left off each time.

Out of everything on the market at the moment the only thing I can see is the CRF250 Rally, it's in my price bracket and looks well put together. Is there anything else like that around?

What's wrong with the ( prepped ? ) DR 650 that you already have ?

Discounted at Fowlers at the moment, I had a test ride a couple of weeks ago. But I'll ask the same question, what's wrong with doing it on your DR650?

Nothing wrong with the DR650 but since the trip to Greece I've wanted something new.

I'll be looking in Fowler's soon and them might sell her.

From what ive read on the tet facebook page nearly everyone says their current bikesc are too heavy and looking at pictures that is true,only one bike the husky 701 stands out...


The crf is similar weight to your dr650 but half the power and torque...slap some gear on and its too heavy to continually pick up.... ..

Id stick with the dr650...most tet reports have been done in dry conditions....the rain will change everything..

ive though the same at times but stay with the crfs .. some of the money wanted for older trail bikes now is plain silly

ive been very pleased with the rally ..it really does travel well ..its a bit heavy for a 250 sure but it has a lot of great points to it ..not least being a proven honda 250 with a great reliability record and brand new ..you would be massivly unlucky for this bike to let you down in any way imho set off it will get you back with no worries ...

ive been really surprised how well it goes when you get used to it ..ditch the cat and loosen it up it bobs along pretty dam well and within reason that small ist gear will climb anything that you point it at it massivly easy to ride in slow stuff where you need to pick your way through and all but unstallable ....when freed up and run in one cog up on the rear it has a practical sat nav cruising speed in the high 60s..takes awhile to get there but it will stay there ..sort the seat and screen and theres no need to stop from liverpool to portsmouth ...apart from feul at around 170 miles tops .. shoping a round 4700 wiill buy a new one ..and you can then realax and ride it without worrying about 15 year old componants which is a big factor for me ..cant be arsed messing about with old stuff half worn ..the 8k service interval is nice too but i throw in a extra oil change or two when i feel like it

i wouldnt recomend one just cos i gave one a go ...i really do like it a very lot . its better than the old 250l in near exery way except weight ..but the extra weight longer wheelbase make it super stable on the road ... id ride mine anywhere any distance and fully intend to

Stick with the Donk and if you're worried about picking it up get a winch like Chris (doing the TET ) has for getting the 701 up
