It pays to shop around

Post by chipy »

My bike insurance is up this week, I currently have a multi bike policy from surety (IAM) which gives class 1 business use on the XT1200 , FJ1200, ZZr 600 and the F 650.

The renewal came a couple of weeks ago and was £570.00 with 350 excess a massive increase on last year.

This afternoon I spent an hour or so doing the comparison sites looking at all the option for insuring the 4 bikes including separate policy`s, multi bike and on classic insurance. When I had all the best prices worked out I rang surety who say they will try match any other quotes.

Sure enough after giving them all the details including proof of the other quotes they rang me back with a much better price. All 4 bikes still class 1 business use and legal cover etc for £290.00 with a 250 excess.

That’s a saving of £280.00 !!!

When shopping around for Ins on my CRF1000L I put in Zero for voluntary excess to see what would happen. The premium went down a fair bit. So I tried it on some other sites & the same happened. No more £250 voluntary excess.

Just renewed mine, and for the 2nd year in a row the same company came in cheaper for an on-line quote then their original "offer"

They then drop the price too the on-line figure

It really is time the ombundsman got his act together and investigated this cartel.

I appreciate this is an old thread but it's now my renewal time for the GSA.

My premium has increased by 29%!

What changed? Well I obtained an extra year's no claims bonus.

That's with Carole Nash who I have been with for a while. I did the usual comparison and JMI were the cheapest by almost £70.

I contacted Carole Nash who refused to budge even a pound coin.

Here's the kicker. CN and JMI are the same entity but refused to match themselves. Even the sales guy apologised.

Absolutely daft and that's after them torturing me hourly for a few days having run a quote on their site. When I did finally answer them they hadn't even checked if I was a customer of theirs or not. At least it made it easy to cancel their auto renewal - another hateful invention, but that's another story.

Poor show Carole Nash.
Boo :-p
