Eagles nest Anyone been?

Post by sid. »

3 of us are travelling down from the hook down to stuttgart for an over night stay then on to Austria italy and switzerland, and we're thinking of popping into the " eagles nest"on the way through. We are all interested in this kind of thing and thought it might be worth a visit. So is it worth it ? Traveling beginning of September. Cheers sid.

Would throughly recommend it. You need to leave the bikes in the car park at the bottom of the mountain or big hill. Buy a ticket & jump on the shuttle bus. All well worth it.

Great place to visit and the castle they filmed 'Where Eagles Dare' is only a short ride away too on the way (ish) to the Grossenglockner.
Top Tip; Don't making hissing sounds in the superb lift when the doors close, the other passengers may think its gas

Well worth a visit.
Go early to avoid the crowds.
Take a picnic. Two bottles of water cost us €7.00 at the top the last time we went.
Just because you're paranoid it doesn't mean they're not after you.

Yep, well worth it but as previously mentioned, you need to pick your day weather wise. While you're there, you must also ride the Rossfeldstrasse, which is nearby. A private mountain toll circular road with stunning views. Sometimes used as a special race stage. There are a few vids on YouTube.

A timely thread, I'll be passing this way early September, so I may take a look.
I don't use my Klim Badlands suit on a tour when I know I'll be doing tourist stuff as I travel, because it's so feckin'heavy and warm to walk about in.
