With the proliferation of scamera vans in North Yorks in the past couple of years, I'm enjoying cycling more than biking nowadays :blink: I have the full set (road bike, cyclocross, MTB and tandem), but it's the tandem that gets used for touring as SWMBO loves it

Sounds like a Rohloff Speed hub not seen one with a belt drive in the flesh but I think Shand do a few if your feeling flush!

Beautiful engineering in the hubs but if they need repairing hmy: I will stick with chain and derailleur thanks,repairable or easily replaced (thumbs)

Well went out on the new bike with all the gear I will be taking taking with me on the trip next week. Did a quick 25 miles and the bike performed excellently as I had hoped. It is so much easier to pedal than my mountain bike despite the reduction in gears. The only problem was on very steep hills where with a full load I would have liked the very low first of the mountain bike.

My mate had one for 10 years rode it to Turkey amongst other things and the only failure was the oil leaking in India due to heat, the factory posted him an oil change kit. Rohloffs just dont break.

Belts do wear out and will eventually snap, they are also very expensive to replace, Chains have been used for over 100 years for a good reason theres nothing better.

Have been clocking up a few miles recently with a mate who has an electric MTB with the dongle (I think that's what their called) he can get up to 28mph on it. A bit demoralizing when you are puffing and wheezing way back.
I am seriously thinking of treating myself to one.

Yeah been there and I really think their stuff is good value for money. Got some of their kit on the bike in the photo.

The Rohlof is generally used with a chain. Never seen one with a belt.
