What type of contacts Jos??
Started with glasses fir reading first years +1.0 later on +1.5, this config also stayed sharp at long distance.
Now contacts
R is the master using +1,50 contact
L is the slave on my request tuned at +3,75 contact
Brand is Acuvue Oasys
Advise is 14days of use
Extending to 21days without any problem.

Heavy dust on trail no problem at all.
Profesional workshop use grinding and welding without problem.

I was fed up with glasses, after 10 years, grease, scratch.
Think about sweat behind MX goggles and also moisture damping at stand still when riding heavy trail.
No issue with contacts.

Give your self a few weeks getting used to the procedure.
Put in with finger tip is easy.
In my case. Out, twich me eye lid, comes of, silicon pincet for collecting it.

Best part. When you get drunk and forget, its can be a bit foggy in the morning.

I'm on my third pair now, used them for the last three years. The arms are adjustable and I can wear them all day without any discomfort.

About 10 years ago I had a job that involved reading what was on the desk in front of me, reading a computer screen on the desk and reading a TV type screen that was about 25 feet away.
I am also long sighted and have always had bifocals so I went to the optician and they gave me a pair of glasses for the computer distance. I spent my whole time swopping glasses over.
Bifocals have the advantage that they have a wider field of view compared to varifocals.
My optician's solution was trifocals. These are quite rare, I don't know anyone else who wears them. They are similar to bifocals but have a "ribbon" of lens above the bifocal segment. I have no problems reading the bikes gauges or the satnav. Be warned it is not a cheap solution but it works for me.
I did a quick google search and came up with this:
http://www.allaboutvision.com/over40/segmented.htm
Scroll down and they give a good explanation.
Good luck.

My problem is that being the ham fisted twat that I am, I either loose them or break them.

I recently (and stupidly) bought a pair of £300 Carlos Fandango varifocal specs that I am scared to wear and basically completely dislike.

What I do is buy clear plastic 1.5, off the shelf lenses that are only half height. I then ride normally without looking through the glasses and they only get use when checking the clocks/sat nav.

The advantage is that if I break or loose them I do not cry about it and being plastic, they are a bit safer in the event of crash.

I bought a pair of prescription bi-focal polycarbonate riding glasses from Andy at Rockspexs.
I'm fine long distance but struggle reading a map or looking at my SatNav.
He's a biker and knows his stuff.
These are a bit pricey but do the job brilliantly, he sets them up to suit you, so that the clear section and the magnified sections are in the correct place for riding.
Like Ray I normally can't be trusted with anything other than Pound Shop reading glasses, but I leave these perminately in my tank bag so I just use them on the bike.
They've go clip-out lenses....plain and tinted.

I don't use gps/satnav and this is partly why. Tank bag and a printed route I can read is brilliant and a well honed sense of direction from a life time of map reading and travelling makes it a lot easier.
I've been doing just this since the early 80s too, BUT trail riding requires a map or GPS I find ;)
