I've said this a few times now, but I've never bought one of these and never had an issue there.

I never used to buy one either but 2 years ago I was riding solo but in the company of a group that met up at hotels in the evening. As most of you will know It is quite time consuming crossing Switzerland sans motorway and as i approached the french border i came across a motorcycle accident, it was a couple attached to our group, they had been filtering and had been knocked off their bike. The resultant carry on with police investigations/hospital transport and treatment cost them nearly 3000 euros and took almost 12 hours, they were only slightly hurt, bruised etc. After that i decided to buy a vignette for convenience.
I am just back from a month tour of Greece and on going to Italy this year at the start of May the St Gotthard pass was closed but I had a vignette so used the tunnel, that and the ease of crossing Switzerland on the motorway network there and back this year convinced me of the benefit.
