ktm 990 adventure africa twin

Post by luckiegar »

ok for starts this isn't about which is best bike , I fancy a Africa twin love the look of them after much thought went to Honda dealer near me today, I cant get to ride the manuel version till next week , I don't want dtc , yep I know its good but not for me .
sitting on bike feels nice although I know its a fair bit heavier than my 990 adventure which to be fair has never let me down has 24000 miles on it , no centre stand on A T why not, (thumbs) also and this is the big one you can only turn of abs on rear wheel , I know from personel experience abs is well dodgy on y 990 had a big of on a long piece of wet rock because it was on not unhappy with my ktm at all just thinking of a change see what I reckon when I ride one next week any one rode one off road and compared it to 990 lets not let this turn into a whos better thread thanks

I've ridden two Gaz, DCT and manual, then I got back on my 950 and thought nah!!
Why are you thinking of the of changing, it's not as good as your bike for off-roading and if it's for you and your better half there are better touring bikes, 1190S/1190R for a start.

I don't think there is much comparison between the Honda ABS and the KTM990 ABS, from the little I know about the 990 ABS you were better just ditching it and lots of people have, my 1050Adv also has off road ABS and it too switches off the back only but it works well for the little I've tried on it. (I can also turn the whole lot off if I want to though)
Last year I did the ride around Walters Arena with Nick Plum and his mate came along on a new AT with his son on Pillion and he had no problems at all on any down hills (or up hill) so it must work ok.

love to hear your opinion gaz ...i rode one for a short time not off road ..ist gear on tickover on tar was a bit long clocking ten mph with the clutch out which kind of made me think it would run quite hard on a steep slope
i know its only a tiddler gaz .. but the rally 250 has the abs up front and ive been quite impressed by it it doesnt seem over sensitive and ive actualy had a little test on wet grass chopping the front hard ...feet down as insurance ..and it did pretty dam well .i had to brake alot harder than i normally would to make it kick in and when it did it just pulsed me to a standstill or slowed me no drama and i had a really crap tyre on too ..point being honda seem to have de sensitised the abs on the bike ..i know its alot heavier and a different bike but just sayin ...be good to hear your thoughts
my problem is that i pretty much forget to turn the feckin abs off as im not used to it and i hate the fact it resets after switchoff ..im geting a sticker on the screen and will use the kill switch when i want to leave it in gear for a gate or suchlike so it stays off
keep well (thumbs)
whats the wether forcast ..wheres me map
