Helmets with a peak

Just a heads up to those of you with a helmet that has a peak.
I have an AGV AX8 and last week somehow the peak snapped down the middle.
I have had it 5 years so can't complain that it has lasted that long.
Bought a new peak and went to remove the remnants of the old one. It is fitted
with 4 plastic screws that screw into brass inserts in the helmet. Guess how
many screws came out and how many are just spinning round.
1 has come out the other screws are just spinning round. So that means the
brass inserts are loose. Confirmed on one of them...
Might be an idea to check yours if you have a peak. Frigging expensive peak...

Ive only ever owned one helmet with a peak, an older type Shoei Hornet. The peak and visor fittings where held on with little clear plastic screws in the same manner as yours. Twice while out riding a screw snapped and the visor had to be taped down to get me home as it wasent removable and once when i picked it up by the visor. :dry: I believe its much improved now but i wouldent own another because of the buffeting and noise when riding. Also hated how the visor was caught by the wind when i looked over my shoulder. I have a helmet now with a drop down sun visor which i prefer to a peak. Its also fits in my top box. (thumbs)

Interesting, I was looking around for an adventure helmet...may have just changed my mind!

I must admit I find it a very comfortable helmet. Wind noise seems
to have increased without the peak though. :huh:
I can't have ridden fast enough for the peak to cause problems like you describe,

Had a Bell Moto which uses alloy screws and same situation tried to change broken peak and inserts turned and became loose so helmet so scrap at less than two years old

Can you remove the padding and get at the back of the inserts as you may be able to get a grip on them to remove the screws?

Removed as much padding as possible, but can't see them... :pinch:

My philosophy is that if it is already broke then I can't break it.
Is it possible to use superglue to lock the brass inserts (if you can get to them without compromising the plastic screw).

Can you snap the screws off to remove the mount,carefully drill out the remains of the plastic screw then as above secure the brass rivnuts with superglue.

EDIT they look to be inseted in a couple of plastic mounts if this is the same helmet
