You can't put off a trip to Scotland due to weather at any time of year. Just take decent waterproof gear and make sure if you're camping your tent is waterproof, rig up a tarpaulin at the entrance and make sure the campsite has a drying room. You could go first week in July and it'll piss it down the whole week.

I was there as the very accurate historical artifact called 'Braveheart' came out. For some weeks afterwards i did not feel safe going out in the evening...and it was MY personal fault the Scotland had been oppressed for so many years.

Thats said outside of the cities i've not had anything but very nice times. I have spent a fair bit of time near Tain and i like it up there.

But as for a biking trip..maybe not. Yes the roads are great but the weather is not and the midges spoil it for me..sorry but it's how i feel.

Be thankful you were in Edinburgh not Glasgow or Dundee.

Or try growing up in Kirkcaldy when you go to boarding school in Bath, that teaches you how to handle yourself in a fight.

If you are planning to ride the west coast and the forecast is for days of rain just head to the north east instead. The weather is often the opposite east/west due tothe Cairngorms dividing the country. The scenery might not be as impressive but there are plenty of relatively quiet, good roads to ride around the Deeside, Donside and Speyside areas.

Having spent loads of time in Snowdonia and other places I thought I knew all about midges.

Went to Scotland last year, never seen anything like it! The minutes after I swam in Loch Cluanie were like something out of a low budget horror movie. They were swarming!
And now, Harry, let us step out into the night and pursue that flighty temptress, adventure.

For crying out loud, for the sake of us who live up here, that's another top tip shared with rest of the world. Next up you'll be extolling the virtues of the Scottish borders or even deepest, darkest Ayrshire. Ah.

Scotland is a horrible place, particularly if you ride a motorcycle, best avoided I suggest. (thumbs)

He is right, Dam nuisance.
I have ridden nearly all that can be ridden in Scotland, a few green lanes as well, so not all.
it is very nice.
But there is something about getting on a ferry to destinations unknown.
Italy I did not like, Germany was fabulous, Austria the same (good tarmac roads and well signed)
Austria is up there with Scotland on views and Moontains.

So budding Adventures head for another Country and leave us Scotland :woohoo: :woohoo: (thumbs)

It is that crap
