My 100k on a GS1200

100k's on a GS1200 (non ABS)
On its 100,000 mile mark now, thinking of putting it into semi-retirement and adding something new to the garage -orange perhaps any 1190's out there with milage yet?.
So there you go, make a judgement on reliability or post your 100k report.Might be of use to others.
Should have been wrapping Christmas crap.

Few on there with high mileage given the age of the bike, some around 50k in 2 years :blink:

I love mine. My second GSA oil cooled. Avoided the LC and bought the latest possible TU.

thats just about right,
praise is boring but shipping the dirt is and will always be more interesting, not many are interested in wow ive done x miles and nothing has fallen off.

if any on the forum have or had a 986/987 boxster will know about the ims issue you would never take it out even to wash it, but prob billions of words have been written about it and i was one of the unlucky ones.

Broken sump gaurd - not the steps in Bulgaria was it :laugh:

My old bus is coming up to 160,000 miles now (1996 1100gs) It's had a gearbox recondition at 70K (pre-98 fault) and a complete £3k overhall at 114,000 (the engine has never been touched) - other than that just consumables.

I do keep looking at getting something newer but struggle to look beyond a GS - for many reasons, and my 1100 still goes really well. I do like the look of the 1190 Adv though (thumbs)

Thanks for posting. My 1200 has over 60k and I can't see there's much that will replace it for me. I've done a few mods, removed the servo abs, changed the clutch, De catted it, I had the fuel pump controller go ( luckily a phone call to mikeyboy from the side of the road nr Jaca saw me able to bypass it and carry on to Pamplona to buy a new one). Something that really appeals is the lack of a water cooling system, as in less to go wrong. All in all a great all rounder, whilst it will never be my only bike it will certainly always be one if them

I was selling some 12gs bits recently and a local fella arrived on a 2005 bike . He had just bought it from his friend,the original first owner and it had 114k on it. I questioned him about reliability and he said it was very good......and still on the original clutch.

in case any one else has similar (I could find little info for the 12 plenty for the older models though) the sticky throttle body butterfly spindle was a slightly dry/seized needle bearing on the inside end of the spindle.A little gentle persuading and cleaning and blowing then re-greasing saw it good again.Would have replaced it anyway but local places all shut and wanted it running for Holiday season. Apparently uncommon, but may be of use to someone.
Out of interest anybody know where I can obtain some stainless inlet boot securing bands to replace the horrible C.V boot type thingys BMW use?
