Rotopax...did you use it?

Post by byewayrider »

Curiosity keeps getting the better of me...so who has bought a rotopax fuel can ...carried it and never needed it?

Im trying to convince my self i dont need one just rely on a map with known checked fuel stations...

This is more for the traveling enduro with 150mls range...exploring the wilderness ..

Thanks in advance...

Rotopax...did you use it?

Post by AustinW »

Bought a second hand one and carried it for thousands of miles on the rear carrier of my XT660R around UK and Europe. Needed it once in Shetland (or was it Orkney?) but peace of mind the rest of the time was worth it.

I now have a GSA1200 so don't really feel the need for it. ;)

Yes. Had one on my XT 660 R and used it a few times - but that was in South America where you could do some big miles and not see a petrol station :pinch:

there was a guy that imported quite a few & sold them on here- they were not rotopax- but similar.
His name on here was "road2manchester"..I'm sorry I cant remember the price, but they were significantly cheaper

Ive got a Rotopax permanently on the rear of the 950. Its only got a 70 mile range (trails) or 125 miles (road) so I do need it. Only ever ran out of fuel once, but good to have it there for piece of mind. Its the difference between having to divert off my intended route to find fuel or to continue and hope a fuel station appears.

I bought one of roads 5l knockoffs, good quality. Its been used a few times but the closest to the bike was draining the tank. Ive yet to make it to Mongolia

I do take a 2l fuel friend on any long trip though, the one time I needed it has made it a priceless piece of kit.

There was a thread recently on ADV about a South African member who manufactured similar tanks, there are also Chinese knock offs available.

There previously was also slim marine water tanks that some people were using
