Hi Ralph,

I stayed at this site the other week & thought it was a decent set up, only cost me £8 too :)

campfires, a decent shop, cafe, cycle hire, animals & a long walk down the cliffs to the beach if you fancy.

If the link doesn't work Caffyns Farm Lynton.

I didn't bother stopping at Lands End but the actual Lands End loop is pretty good fun, great twisty roads with fantastic scenery

Lizard Lighthouse might keep you entertained for a while too

I took this advice when you posted it ln the other thread, and definitely am getting him involved in the planning. He's excited already!! Thanks

The Atlantic highway from Barnstaple to Bude is great. Loads of twisties but nothing horrendous and the views are fab
Stop at Welcombe Mouth and Duckpool, both fairly unknown but gems.
Campsite . Lobb fields in Braunton on the way out to Saunton. Any of the main coast roads in North Devon are good to ride. Ilfracombe to visit, has been upgraded and no longer run down .
Croyde has a couple of good campsites and the Thatch is probably the best pub in North Devon for food and hospitatlity without being charged a fortune.
Runs over Lynton/lynmouth and take out over Exmoor. some great roads there.

Ralph all great advice re places and roads. I have recently set up a Glamping business with fully equipped Safari tents. Have a look at www.rosevidneyglamping.co.uk
Gooner (off here) and his son recently came to stay whilst doing a father son bike trip. No pitching of tents required :) . You would both be very welcome.

I echo what has been said about Lands End..its shit, however a 9 year old might find it interesting and it is one of the most recognisable places in the UK so I wouldn't rule it out. I've been a few times and have been lucky to get there when the RAF are doing their hourly rescue exercises. I'm sure he'd love to see that.
Lizard point is good for him as you can explain he is at the most southernly point in the UK.
Beautiful place down there

I'd recommend staying with Coasty - great Safari tents and well placed to see all the must see places - plus Phil is a top lad (thumbs)

Okay my Son isn't nine any more but it was our first road trip on our own bikes and he loved it

PS. I liked Land's End. It's not Covent Garden but if you're in Cornwall you have to go don't you?

Being a native I can thoroughly recommend the South Devon area.

Starting from Exeter I recommend visiting the Double Locks pub or even better Turf locks on the Exe estuary.

Make your way along the coast to Torbay. Torbay is nothing special in itself so either make your way to the market town of Totnes or head down to Kingswear on the head of the Dart. You can if you have time catch the steam train from Kingswear back up to Paignton. Otherwise get the ferry across to Dartmouth, the scenery around here is stunning. Then take the coastal roads to Blackpool sands and on to Slapton Sands (D Day practice location complete with Sherman tank). Salcombe and Bigbury on Sea are really worth a look as well.

You can then continue on the coast towards Plymouth or head inland to Dartmoor. I don’t think you’ll be doing it on this trip but the green lanes in this area are fantastic 

cheers
Pete
