CCM GP 450 Surging at Low Revs

Post by Jak* »

Hi has anyone else had this problem? Presumably they have as CCM now are offering a 'Power Commander' that provides improved fuel air mixture at low revs (at a price). The test bike I rode cut out once at the lights, which my old GS 650 used to do. That has happened several times on my CCM and I sort of assumed that it would get better as I put more miles on it. The last couple of days it has got a lot worse, surging at low revs and cutting out whilst I am filtering through traffic, it has been down right dangerous. If it happened on the trail it could be serious as well. The bike has now done about 1200 miles and I have not done anything to it apart from play with the suspension since the service at 500 miles.
Has anyone else had this as bad or should I be contacting the factory?
Cheers Jak

Jak, if it's a bad as you describe then it's a fault that needs sorting under warranty, rather than a trait of a modern single struggling to meet emissions.

My fuelling is stock and it's extremely rare for it to stall like that.

As Jonny says , it sounds like you have a technical problem , my bike does not behave like that, have a word with Mick at the factory on the phone and he will sort it for you. I cannot fault the factory for customer service (thumbs)

Jak, try an "adaptation reset".
From cold start the engine and let it idle without touching the throttle at all. Leave it alone and wait until the fan kicks in. Once the fan starts let it run for one minute, then turn it off using the key. Wait until you hear the secondary throttle do its reset and you will hear a relay click about 15-30 seconds later. That will reset the adaptations inside the ECU. On mine I like to thonk that reduced the number of stalls, and improved the hot start. If that does not work, try calling CCM.

Contact the factory. Darren is often out and about and has been known to help if he is nearby.

Hi Thanks for the replies I will try Magwych's suggestion and if that does not work I'll call the factory.
