Near Miss

At some point the A82 will be closed for investigation work and his tragic story will be in the paper along with pictures of him and his kids.

Maybe I should keep quiet when I've had a drink but even in the cold light of day it still all sounds a bit dramatic.I doubt many, if any head on collisions on the A82 are caused by one bike overtaking another running out of space on the road.

I doubt the OP's bike was the only thing the rider was overtaking. It was probably a long line of vehicles, and just like Cone described above, the rider got overconfident (arrogant) about the capabilities of his bike and made a silly overtake, thinking his bike was so fast it could make the gap in front of the OP, before the oncoming vehicle got there.

It's all down to individual perception and what to one rider was a close thing could have been loads of room to spare to another one. I always think I've got time and space in hand yet if I saw someone else doing the same thing I might think they were cutting it a bit close.

The bottom line as far as I'm concerned is that no crash equals no problem (thumbs)

The worst ones are the oncoming car drivers flashing their lights at you. If it was that close you would be slamming on your brakes not fannying about flashing your lights!

Car drivers don't understand how quickly a bike can overtake. They see a bike 1/4 of a mile away start an overtake and heading towards them and start flashing headlights. I often wonder if they feel stupid when you've completed the overtake, and you're back on your own side of the road, and they are still a 1/8 mile away.

Bloody bikers should be banned from the road! Have you never made an error when you're riding your bike? Either that or the guy knew exactly how much time he had and you're a drama queen! :whistle:

I'm not going to waste my time getting into an argument about it but how is it a bit harsh? If it was a split second miss the guy obviously made an error in his judgment but can anybody on this forum say they have never cocked up? Or one persons "split second" is another persons "plenty of time"
I had a "near miss" today with a boy racer deciding to overtake after I was a "split second" from his rear bumper but I didn't feel the need to start a thread about it.

You're not going to waste your time getting into an argument, but then you do anyway? You have NO idea what happened here to make ANY kind of judgement. Just let the guy vent FFS and next time you have too much to drink wind your neck in.

Well it was a Sunday afternoon and I didn't have anything better to do and I never actually got into an argument with anyone so why don't you wind your neck in? NOBODY on this forum has ANY idea what happened so a pretty pointless thread if nobody is allowed an opinion!
And I'm REALLY not going to waste my time arguing with someone who hides behind a restricted access!
