Triumph and KTM both have 1050cc bikes, Kawasaki Versys 1000, Suzuki V-Strom 1000, etc, etc. These all so 95% of what your 15k panzers do.

My opening post was just drawing attention to the fact that we can buy a beautifully built bike,(ZZR1400) that's pretty much the Bugatti Veyron of motorcycles for about 4K less than an average spec'd GS1200.

I've gone from A 18 month old Versys 1000 to a new GSA. The price new maybe 5k more but the difference in quality, equipment etc is massive. Don't get me wrong the Versys is a great bike but you can see where the money has been spent.

Re: The Cost Of Big "Adventure" Bikes!
The whole categorising of motorbikes is bo!!ocks and misleading, especially the term 'adventure'. Any bike can take you on an adventure. You only have to look through this forum to see how many people buy 'adventure' bikes and then 'tour' europe on tarmac. Similarly, people buy sports bikes and commute on them. The sort of bikes people generally talk about on here are more 'dual purpose' (good on and off road), but that doesn't really grab people who seek some adventure in their lives.
Current bike is a Yamaha Tenere 700

Thats my thoughts.
Bikes are like slogans. They show what you're dreaming, not necessarily what you're doing.
Chuck in a wadge of status, fashion and group identity massaged by advertising.
You're about there.

Pah ! £920 OTR "Adventure bike" - makes every trip an adventure

Or if that's a bit pricey £500 -

Met a few "Adventure riders" once I got nearer the ports
