EU. In or out?

My guess is that in the end there will be very little practical difference whether we are nominally in or out of the EU.
We will stay in the single market which means we will still have free movement of labour.
We will still pay something for the privilege but not as much as we pay now. Although we won't see any financial benefit as the government will politically have to compensate the net benefit areas, the Welsh Valleys and Cornwall, for the EU funding they have lost.
Manufacturers and service providers will still have to abide by EU regulations if they want to sell to Europe. Many of these are enshrined in UK law anyway so won't automatically lapse with UK withdrawal. It would take years to unpick and replace them even if any government had the will.
We will be free from ever closer political union and demands to support EU countries that get into trouble but will have no say in any further regulation that affects our trade with the EU.
The only real change that I can see is that a lot of Eurosceptics and haters will feel better which if it shuts them up after 40 years is probably not a bad thing.
Personally I think we've made the biggest mistake since we told the Normans to fuck off but you can't deny the referendum result much as many people would like to.

Oh come on! It's not all doom and gloom. Apparently Jamie Oliver is claiming that he will bugger off if Boris becomes PM. That alone is a pretty to reason to vote out. (thumbs) Will anybody miss a celebrity cook? :laugh: :laugh:

PS. Just watched the video of Nigel Farage's speech to the EU parliament. though it was bloody brilliant. Especially the bit about them not ever has proper jobs. :laugh:
As he rightly pointed out, the trade with the UK works both ways. If they want to damage their own economies, fine. They have more to lose than the UK. There was a surprising amount of applause for some of the comments that he made.

One of the things that scares me about Brexit is the parallels with the US presidential race. Most intelligent people I know have been shocked and surprised that someone, as bigoted as and who makes such idiotic comments as Trump, could possibly be so close to becoming US president. 'It is just a protest vote and they will never really vote him in' they say. Well a majority of our electorate voted for Farage and his bigoted campaign. God help America and the world.
As for Farage's comments today, I think whilst many Europeans have been shocked by our vote and many understand our resentment at some of the bureaucracy, generally they are laughing at our nation's stupidity in plunging itself into economic turmoil. Especially as the Leave campaign's policy for the future seems to have been written on a tea towel 'Keep Calm and Carry On'.
In contrast to Farage, the Scottish MEP who spoke, Alyn Smith, received a standing ovation for his calm but passionate plea for the EU to continue to support Scotland.
Oh I am so glad we have our sovereignty back.
