I live in Germany and I'm slightly confused by some ppls comments? For one filtering is exactly the same as Britain but i find the Germans more accepting of Bikers and happy to let you past. I've ridden in both Austria and obviously Germany beautiful countries you'll have a great time.

well, I have left Austria yesterday after 4 days in there and can tell that the motorways are completely pointless in Austria for a bike traveller. There is always a good quality road following alongside the motorway in mountainous areas and plenty of good nice roads going forwards Vienna. What is more, a lot of stretches are limited to 100kph(60mph), so not much more of the progress in the distance travelled. For that just hop to Germany.
