Removed all calipers. Checked pads. All okay. Cleaned everything up. Reassembled. Replaced brake fluid. Front brake tied back for the night. Never done this before. A lot easier than I thought it would be. Guess riding it tomorrow will show if ut really was that easy
Drained engine oil and removed oil filter. Will fit new filter and add oil tomorrow.

Finally got the 1953 Matchless G80, 500, on the road and out for a shake down ride. 78 miles of mainly country roads and the only fault was the throttle twist grip was a bit loose on the H/bars and needed the clamp screw tightening to fit.
I did try to go for a ride the night before and got as far as the local pub down the road when the clutch release stuck and I needed to give it a tweek and adjust to get going again.

Now it's on the road and going OK, the plan is to fit a V-Reg solid state regulator inside the old Lucas regulator box, LED bulbs front and rear, (I'll leave it at 6V). Replace the clutch and brake levers as the ones fitted give too long a pull on the cables. (7/8 inch pivot to cable end on AMC machines, most repro levers are 1" or 1,1/8". Tune up the motor as there is a flat spot mid range, should be just raising the needle a bit. A bit of paint touching up and an oil change in a few of hundred miles and that's it. Should be fine for another 60 plus years. (thumbs)

PS, Cables from JJ Cables supply top quality parts for classic bikes, far better than anything the club can supply and only a pound or two dearer.

Rode my V-Strom DL1000 a short 70 mile run out today on sundrenched roads in bonnie Scotland, sublime.

Loving the newly fitted Tourance Next rear tyre, excellent grip with confidence.
