CRF450X road legal

Post by Uncle Buck »

So, after big John and Beddows breaking my poor little klx 250, I have been thinking about a change. Don't think I am ready for a 690 yet so was thinking about a road legal crf450x. What do you chaps know about them and think about them?

nothing wrong with your Kawa for trail work? (send them the bill!). It can be tweaked a bit here and there to get more go and save some weight. However, its the intended use that you have to look at. The CRF 250X is pretty quick and the 450 even quicker--but they are really competition enduro machines with tall seats (for the suspension travel). They do carry a short service interval as a result and also minimal fuel. Unfortunately there aren't that many modern genuine trailies out there if you want some road manners, a lowish seat height, comfort and a decent fuel range--- and a sensible service interval--the debate has been going on for ages. A mate of mine on the "other forum" beginning with A runs a CRF250X on trails and he is vertically challenged--but he is one of those riders that rarely needs to put his foot down (nothing personal)--and its a Honda so they don't break easily, especially if only ridden "gently".

'Other channel'? "other forum"?
And now, Harry, let us step out into the night and pursue that flighty temptress, adventure.

250x is a better trail bike than a 450x

Oh good! Another opportunity for me to ramble on about the best value, least known Japanese trail bike still available new in the UK. The KLX450r.
Forget the list price, any stocking dealer will cut you a fantastic deal on a new one. They are under the radar, but they are a brilliant trail bike.
Much more forgiving than a 250, stick it in 3rd and it's like an automatic, loads of Torque, 50bhp and good stock suspenders.
I think of mine as a modern DRZ400.

I rode the CCM GP450 a few weeks ago... utterly amazing. Great engine, very capable both on and off road, long service intervals.
Had a day riding round Salisbury Plain and really enjoyed it. Also has so many options with regards to accessories for touring etc.

Best lightweight multi-purpose/dualsport out there
