Yes makes the job a lot easier.
I'm in Cheshire so if your local your more than welcome to borrow it.

The bearing on the stearing stem was very tight to get off so i used a dremel
I just use a length of steel rod (I think it's stainless, 10mm diameter) and a big heavy hammer.

Took me a few 'taps' to do top and bottom on my XT660; always helps if you have a good, solid, piece of wood below the steering head when you're bashing the bearing cup from above.

Also, removing the lower bearing race from the steering stem is a piece of cake with a 10 tonne press; just push the stem down about 30mm and then the bearing just drops off. It might need a bit of lubrication if it's been on for a long time.

As an aside I have this...a couple of pumps every month. Assists immensely after you change your bearings?

I found the xtz a bit difficult to get the bottom race out. Down it plenty of times on other bikes. Dirt bikes have a little cut out or the race protrudes slightly and a few taps and it out - but the tenere seemed to be almost flush so there was no purchase for the drift. On other bikes I've welded a small bar across and knocked out but this time I used a small cutter on my dremel to cut a couple of slots into the bearing and it came out. Need to do mine again so I might slot the head so make it easier next time. Another silly lack of attention by Yamaha.

Good idea ref the grease nipple. I've done the same to a swingarm.
