Looking to buy a new tent hopefully in the near future, anyone had any experience with the Hoolie 2 ETC?

I have an Omega 350 but travelling solo it's too big (in cold weather & pack weight). The quality / price is acceptable but I would like to downsize and save weight.

The Hoolie 2 ETC is a quoted weight of 3.85kg against 4.15kg for the Omega 250.

Any advice or alternatives?

Just check the Hoolie does actually have a groundsheet in the porch area. The photos don't show one and that could account for the difference.

I use a 2 man tent with a decent porch but a smallish sleeping area that is just the size of 2 airbeds, fairly similar to the Omega. I got it as a display from a friends camp shop for €75. I never share it but the smaller sleeping area and air volume is perfect for cold weather camping. I wouldn't go smaller because you can keep your bike gear in with you if its dry....stays warmer and no bugs in it. I also love the tent for another reason...the poles fit inside the panniers so travelling in cold weather the tent is kept warmer and dry. I bring the tent bag though, often as not it travels outside going home.

If you do a lot of travelling check out the titanium ranges now available in cookware, tent pegs, cutlery. I did some maths and found its possible to knock 2 kg off the kit this way. Stainless steel cookware v titanium offers 1 kg saving on its own. Someone wanted Christmas ideas and asked me about it. Its not cheap but its great stuff. Check out the weight difference in a bag of tent pegs.

I like the Vango Helix 300, a weight saving of 1.5kg and reduction in pack size.

I'd go for a Vango. They are great value for money and can normally be found discounted at this time of year. In addition they are easy to get spare parts for unlike some more expensive tents. In addition to the Omegas, the Halo tents are well worth a look at.
