Free for the first 12 months to get everyone to upgrade and use it, then wait for the monthly subscription to start if you want it to keep working.

That's my cynical view anyway....

Same here. Windows 7 and forget about any later versions.

I've recently gone to Win 10 on one of my PCs.... all fine except some fiddling needed to get me old scanner working with PaperPort. Other machines are happy on Win 7.
Tried Win 8...8.1 .. on a couple of machines: absolute rubbish, clearly meant for touch-screen devices and not mouse/keyboard 9The 8.1 tweaks are just window-dressing) .... and I find it very frustrating on my little tablet, too (wish I'd gone for Android rather than a Windows model, but thought i'd try Win 8 on one).

I noticed that MS started (continued) to do updates for XP--and on my old HP tower it was fine. I'm now on 8.1 I think, with a new laptop, and keep getting bombarded with a "free" advert for 10--going nowhere near it--its simply too much biased to touch screen and pretty graphics that are memory intensive--the fact that they are pushing illustrates how unpopular it is.

I got so sick of all the Malware and virus updates, and the constant pi$$ing about with Windows - that I bit the bullet and bought a MAcBook - efinately the way ahead. Not cheap, but efinately get what you pay for..

Recently bought a new PC with win10 pre-installed. Turned it into a dual boot system with Ubuntu. Kept win10 only for mapsource/basecamp usage. Even after removing all unwanted network traffic from within edge I got unpleasant messages when visiting websites. Now considering disabling IP altogether (from win10 that is).

Win s*cks.
