Are ABR Rallies a thing of the past ?

Anything goes, and mine's a Guinness.

What do people tend to want out of them, just out of interest?

see as many of you as possable at the yuletide.

Jon,

I know the two rallies you mention are both organised by Devon John, a larger than life character who really enjoys organising and attending his rallies. John has a theory that the colder, winter rallies are well attended because they're attended by real biking enthusiasts and I can't argue with that as it's the same people you see turn up every time. It's these people that make the rallies work as they're happy to stand around a fire chatting as they are riding their bikes.

I've not been to an ABR rally so I'm not in a position to pass comment but the one time I've been to an ABR 'event' was for a weekend in the Lakes and it was great fun.

I go to other rallies every year and a big part of the attraction is to meet new people rather than just get together with existing mates for a piss up because that's a much closer knit thing where we already know each other and have things other than bikes to discuss.

Sitting in a field with a group of people from the internet has no real appeal because in a way you know (or have pre-formed views)on each other and you've probably not got anything to chat about apart from what you've read posted on the internet so what's to do apart from maybe a ride out in the day time?

I'm already planning my winter excursion to a rally where I'll know nobody apart from a couple of people I'll go with and the last people I'll want to spend my time with are the ones I've gone with because we could have stayed at home to do that :pinch:

Sorry if that sounds really cynical but it keeps me happy and I meet a lot of new people every year by doing this so I'm happy to stay that way.

Well.

Just to say - I've always enjoyed hanging out and meeting people, tyre kicking, and talking shit for hours with a few beers.

Come rain or shine - there's no such thing as band weather....... only......

I want to meet people with different views that I've not read on the internet and who speak different languages, have a different culture and generally motivate me to mingle and learn things. That's why I travel to rallies in different countries rather than stay local.

Thanks Andy that's interesting coming from someone who has over 5000 posts and interacting with site members most days but have no interest in meeting them or hearing what they have to say at at rally
