The picture that launched 1000's of Adventure Bikers

There can be no doubt that Charlie and Ewan brought "Adventure Bikes" to the mass market.

I bought my GS before LWR, and up till then, this type of bike wasn't that common, other motorcyclists used to show an interest, and chat about it's odd looks.

Now the streets are littered with them...

I really enjoyed LWR and LWD , most inspiring and entertaining. And like many others, my Mrs and Kids totally get why I ride from watching this series. Going out to by a new bike or new kit wouldn't have gone down so well in my house without the understanding this series gave the family. (still don't think Mrs McGregor should have joined them on LWD though, my Mrs agrees :S)

Over the years I have been inspired by Jupiters Travels, Sam Manicom books and many other books on Adventure Motorcycling- Triumph around the world is a great read by Robbie Marshall and one of my favourites - not a GS in sight.But it was this book that inspired me most to get back into Motorcycling .. way before Charley and Ewan took off on their travels:

It made for good tv, which was the whole point. A few chaps got to have a well paid jolly & BMW came out of it all smiles. That was a bonus

I don't think their intention was to define 'adventure', it certainly made me have a good think.

The book was shite though

Fixers at the borders, translators, medics, mechanics, support vehicles, support team back at base; jealous? You bet I am, would I do it and get paid lots of money for doing it-in a flash (thumbs)

Good luck to them and anyone else inspired to do something similar because of LWR/LWD.

I've got the bike, got the time, all I need is the £££££££££ to make it happen and I'm off....now then, how does crowd source funding work .....
