Riding Scotlands North Coast road 2nd week of September

Scourie is only one street, the campsite is on your left hand side going nprth or right hand side coming south.

It,s run by a chap called Tony and he couldn,t do enough to make our one night stay enjoyable.
The rooms we had were spotless and very comfortable and was even greeted with tea and home made cakes when we arrived. There,s a local hotel / bar within a few mins ride or 10 min walk which is okay for dinner.

Was last there in June 2014 as did not get past Ullapool this year

You can get a bit closer to the west coast in a couple of places, e.g. Tarbert.

I see you have Smoo cave waypointed, the inflatable boat trip is worthwhile. Also check out Dunnet Head which is the really most northerly GB mainland spot (not JOG).

I hope to be in the area in the first week of Sep (KTM 690 with black panniers and Lynx screen).

there's a brilliant backpackers in durness called the lazy crofter.cheap and really nice.i stopped there 2 years ago.cheers tony.

I've stayed in the Lazy Crofter too.It's just a short walk from the campsite,which has good views out to sea and their bar where you can get a decent meal.I've also camped by the war memorial in Glenelg which is a nice spot and not too "wild" with the hotel for food and public toilets nearby.Corrieshalloch gorge just outside Ullapool is worth a quick stop.

+1 for Dunnet Head. I guess you gotta go JoG just because everyone does, when you're disappointed you'll tell others not to and they'll still go there too ! Dunnet Head ++1

You've got Achmelvich which is nice to see, but IMHO Applecross is the wrong way round, although I have been up and down in in a oner back the same way. So if its nice weather go back up it again Only takes 5-10 mins :whistle:

Loch Maree is a good spot to W/Camp at the shore. Search Loch Maree on here for many great previous threads and Photos ?

Nip over the Bridge to Skye and get the Armadale Ferry to Mallaig, no need to pre-book (CALMAC) £20-30 quid or so for a bike ? Or Portree Independent Hostel, you're sure a bunk at that time of year.

From Mallaig you're a brill short twisty ride (Slow down for the bridges ... hmy: )to the Glen Nevis campsite if you're needing a shower by then, or Most Westerly point, Ardnamurchan.

I can't remember where but just East of Tongue (top) there's a wee road that loops down to Altnaharra and back up again like a big "u" shape that's good and off the Golden route.

I've been many times and like the old favorites, but still new finds to be had as well.

no intentions of going to JoG - been there before but havent been to Dunnet Head lighthouse.

The other suggestions are good as well - will do some research on them this week.

If you want to stop at Applecross there's the Campsite or Wild at the head of the loch with a 1/2 mile walk to the now 1* Michelin starred Pub. It used to just be voted the best food pubs in Scottie even before the *, plus real ale too. The petrol station here is owned/funded/managed (if they're the right terms, I know what I mean) by the locals. Unmanned and Cards only but usually a ha'penny or two cheaper than the garages you'll find that way.
