Fuel tank ranges?

Post by Udders »

What sort of milages do people get from their different bikes? I've got a standard GS and get around 200 miles between fill ups. What do the different model KTM'S do? Africa Twins? Transalps etc.....

I tend to fill the Tenere up at about 240 miles. Extrapolating from how much I get in to the 23ltr tank volume suggests I ought to run out at about 260 miles in normal riding. There's a few that claim to have done 300 miles, but I think I'm having more fun :D

I let the @ get to 200 miles then look for fuel. Never had it go onto reserve yet. Last tankful I got to 220 miles, reserve not needed and had to put 17lts into the 23ltr tank.

My carbed Vara's fuel light comes at around 200 - 210 miles, meaning it's got another 4 ltrs left before empty, which would be good for 40 miles.

My old 600 Alp would need reserve selecting at around the 160 mile mark, leaving 3.5ltrs left, which equals about 40 miles more running.

But I ride like a "girl", as AfricaJim & Largewayround will confirm  , so my fueling regimes will mean little in the real world ;)

Used to get 180 - 190 miles from the @ before reserve...but it has been as low as 150 miles to reserve when thrashing on a motorway into a head wind.

Still to find out wht the KTM will do.

My Bandit GSF 1250 SA, with a full tank of 19ltrs, will do 145 miles to reserve and i've done 50 miles on reserve before i bottled it and fuelled up.
My Wee Strom (22 ltr tank) will do 250 to 300 miles to a tank, depending on how i ride it.
The Wee Strom's MPG is a lot more dependant on how its riddden than the Bandit.

I typically get 320 on my GSA, could be more but I do a lot of B-road twisties and urban stuff so it's all on and off the throttle.
...I just want to ride!

Transalp 650 .. 170 -180 then a make a pit stop , no reserve on the 650
190miles, probably the max ..

There is a fuel gauge though .. but I always drive off the odometer ..

2000 Yamaha R1- 100 miles to reserve around town. Up to 120miles on the open road. Newer model R1s had smaller tanks due to the fuel pump (at least 2002/3 model, I loose track with modern ones)

KTM 525- standard tank was around 60 miles to reserve! It now has a 15L safari tank. 130 miles to reserve around town. Not tested out of town but fill ups suggest around 150-160miles to reserve is achievable.
