The Best Place For a Biker To Live In Britain?

I've always lived in North West England.
But I do sometimes feel slightly envious of those South English puffs, only because they can nip through the tunnel or jump on a ferry and land in France and have a easy couple days on different roads in a different culture, for me it's a near 700 mile round trip to get to the south coast, or two 12 hour ferry overnight trips from Hull.
But then again, Scotland is pretty accessible from Lancashire....Three and a half hours to Loch Lomond.
Plus we've got some great biking roads and some good green lanes locally....The Dales, Cumbria, North Wales ain't far and our own Lancashire Hills and Moors are stunning.
Ireland is a ferry from Liverpool or Holly Head.
Living in the centre of Britain ain't bad!

Two 24 hour petrol stations within a quarter of a mile

No through traffic (at least in my bit)

Integral garage, with power and water

Umpteen cafes, curry houses, Chinky nosh, Tai.... You name it, we got it

An hour and a touch to the Chunnel

30 minutes in any direction to the edge of London (North circular or similar)

Bus ride to Infinity for bike clobber, open on Sunday

Map and book shops in easy distance, open on Sunday

Walk to work. None of that commuting malarkey or being forced to pretend it's great being an all-year-round-biker when it's snowing and -5c for days on end.... Or having to drive....

Amazon Dropbox delivery thingy, just around the corner

Boris bicycle and Whizz (or whatever it's called) hourly car hire within 300 yards

More taxies than you can shake a stick at

Decent cross-section of mainstream motorcycle dealerships reasonably close

Great pubs

Waitrose as our corner shop..... That's true actually (thumbs)

Hi-speed broadband (but no cable, oddly)

Post Office, doctor, teaching hodpital, 24-hour dentist, cinemas, library on the doorstep

Bloody hell that's remarkable. Can't think of anywhere outside London where they have restaurants, fuel stations, cinemas etc. And I bet you don't have to live in a cardboard box and lick the cobbles clean every day either.

Going to have to put my vote into this thread, no surprise, it has to be Northern Ireland. Roughly the size of Yorkshire, not overly populated, and for its size has a great variety of landscapes, a great coastline, has its own Lake District (County Fermanagh), two mountain ranges (Mournes & Sperrins), the Glens of Antrim, the largest lake in the British Isles (Lough Neagh), a bike friendly region, host to the Noth West 200 & the Ulster GP plus several other annual road races.
A combination of great biking roads, easy access to the rest of Ireland, a short ferry crossing to Scotland, overnight ferries to France via Dublin, Rosslare & Cork.

The weather can be a bit of a bollocks sometimes though :whistle:

I'm going to be predictable and say Bedford. It's 2.5 hours to the Channel ports, just under 2 to Harwich or the south coast ports, 3 hours to the best parts of Wales, 4 hours to Scotland and if I feel so inclined it's 40 minutes on a train to central London.

The town has everything we need and we're not overrun with vagrants or illegals which seem to be a particular problem in London :whistle:

It's about where to live, not where to ride and unless my geography skills have deserted me Yorkshire enjoys gems such as Keighley, Bradford, Hull and countless other carbuncles on the face of Great Britain.

If I'd said Bedfordshire you could have thrown Luton or Dunstable back at me but I didn't (thumbs)

Actually I'm gonna vote for Scarborough:
NYM nearby
Less rain than further west
A seafront to pose on
Not too highly populated
They've got their own unique fashions
More than one fuel station and I think they even have a restaurant nowadays
The average Scarboro driver makes you feel like Marquez (even on my KLX250)
Clean (and very cold!) air
