After a few successful Bunkhouse meets over the past year or so, organised by a few on here Ive been on the lookout for another unusual venue to host another event……..and think Ive found one.
Ive been in contact with the warden from Skiddaw House YHA Bunkhouse which is the most remote and highest (470 meters) bunkhouse in England. Located in the Northern part of the Lake District, and only normally accessible by 3.5 mile walk (1.5 hours)………………….it’s pretty remote. The warden has been kind enough to grant us access by motorbike. Ive explained that we all use legal routes and will not tear around the countryside, its pretty much ride there, then leave the bikes until its time to depart the following day. Pretty similar to what we did for Piel Island.
So, the rough plan would be to arrive Friday night. Travel to the bunkhouse and spend the night. Saturday we will split into groups and head off to enjoy the trails (or roads if you so wish) in the Lakes. Back to the bunkhouse Saturday night. Sunday depart.
The route to the bunkhouse will only be used to access and leave, it will not be used to tear up and down all day long. We have to remember this is not a legal trail, it is private access, and frequented by walkers and mountain bikers.
More info to follow. Bunkhouse has a max 22 people so get your names down. I need to send a deposit so will be collecting cash ASAP. Approx £28 for both nights (I will confirm shortly).

More info to follow.....
Its pretty remote.....

There are 2 tracks we can use. One from the North West, and one from the South. (photos borrowed from GoogleEarth) Each about 3.5 miles.
The approach from the North West....
From the South
And the bunkhouse.....in the middle of nowhere!
I asked the Warden which is the easiest approach, this is the reply.
I would say that the track is a bit smoother from Bassenthwaite than it is from Threlkeld. There is a locked gate at the bottom of Dash Falls but it is not the problem because it is only to stop cars, on the side of it is a narrower gate for bikes and motorbikes.
