Is second hand bike market gone?
Is second hand bike market gone?
after the longest period of owning a single bike I am starting to think of changing the bike this season. And I was in a bit of a shock after some browsing.
With all the recession and EU countries buying out all the bikes it seems that the second hand bike market is non existent at the moment.
It used to be that with 3-4k you had plenty of options of exciting bikes to buy. Now without 5-6k don't even start looking, unless it is some old bike or honda
For example I don't really see a point in buying 3-5 years old KTM 690 enduro for 5-5.5k, when my local KTM dealer is happy to pass on brand new 690 for 6.7k.
Or all smached up C-category writeoff Husqvarna Nuda going for a crazy 4.5k in the insurance auction
It seem to be the same story with other more inteesting bikes as well
Time to start thinking of buyng a new bike? :pinch: Never thought that would get to this point.

It's because the new bike market was on its arse until recently.
Hence, a shortage of late used stock.
But the low € means there's bargains abroad if you want them.

I don't know what the deal is with adventure bike prices, but as far as I'm concerned condition is more important than age.I bought a 10 year old Triumph 955 with 6700 miles that doesn't look like it's ever seen salt.Ok,I took a real gamble on it as it was a repaired cat C (forks replaced) that I bought on ebay unseen for £1600 but I was delighted when it turned up and it shows cheap bikes are out there. Lots of bikes around second hand - the problem is the stupid prices people are being asked to, and do, pay.
That's the problem.

Re: Is second hand bike market gone?
My local main Yamaha and bmw dealers has been saying for the last few years that their new bike sales has halved and they are scrambling to get decent used stock to sell as many people just arnt changing their bikes, and I know they have been offering over inflated prices for trade-ins just go get the sale, which is reflected in their used stock, and prompting private sellers to ask well over the odds in a small buyers market.
Re: Is second hand bike market gone?
It's the time of year, give it a couple of months and they'll be loads more bikes for sale (thumbs)
Re: Is second hand bike market gone?
widen your field of choice and allow up to a month of scouring all the adds and you wil get a nice bike at a fair price..also you have to be prepaired to travel and move quickly if you see the bike of your dreams....however ducati scramblers at 6850 could tempt me to a new bike
