theirs an archaeologist in my home town that carried out a lot of work in Strangford
lough and was one of the team that found evidence of the first water power mill in the world not sure where exactly on the lough but i could put you in contact with him if you like

The mill (if my memory serves) is located on the foreshore to the northern end of Nendrum monastic settlement. One of the excavation directors (Tom McErlean) was one of my lecturers for my Masters in Maritime Archaeology (many years ago now!!).
Not a lot left in the ground to see now though.
