Have a look at the Spada helmet too whilst you're at it, slightly cheaper but looks a lot nicer!

But if I was in the market for a new helmet Id take a punt at the new Spada as it looks the don and its cheap!

Not sure I'd want to go there, as it's the inside that deforms in an accident and it's a one time only thing as once the polystyrene is compressed it won't offer any protection. The shell may appear undamaged as they bounce-back from knocks and may not show any scarring.

Better to buy a new cheaper one than a second-hand one IMHO. :dry:

Just my two bobs worth, but I'm not that enamoured with the whole concept anyway.
I have a HJC CL XS, and with the visor up the edges of it are always in my line of sight.
They are OK for longish journeys to the trail head, but in all honesty I prefer, the visor removed and use goggles in stead.
If I was to do it again I wouldn't bow to fashion, I'd go full MX helmet for off road and my trusty C3 for long journeys on road.

Disagree, a bit like buying a house Location,location,location with helmets its fit,fit,fit and for me thats Arai every time, just got myself a secondhand Tour (in medium Jammin) I'll just fit new a lining and all is well. For long distance road work I'll stick to my Astro R as I think the peak on a TourX might be a problem at three figure cruising speeds.

Totally agree about fit being most important, but replacing the lining on your Arai will not replace all the protective parts, just the comfort lining and the cheek parts. If you are at all concerned that the helmet may have sustained damage, they do a service where they check the helmet including lining. It costs a tenner (for P&P) and is well worth it for peace of mind. I had a Tour-X that I was wearing in an accident and did just that and it came back with a clean bill of health.

Better safe than sorry!
