So the three people who've replied after owning one all agree that they're a belter of a bike but need servicing properly and two of them say that the way to go is to use an independent to do the servicing if you can find a good one.
Every time I ride mine I think it's great but the last 3 months of warranty issues have pissed me off. The cylinder head replacement went really smoothly as did the instrument panel (I hadn't even noticed it was knackered) but getting the ECU to recognise the new fuel sensor has been disastrous. It doesn't make any difference to the running but having an orange light permanently lit up on the instrument panel is a pain.
It's without a shadow of a doubt the best bike I've owned for thrashing the life out of on twisty roads where the surface is a bit dubious and it's great for long distances but as Colin says the luggage isn't great though to be fair it's only the right hand pannier that lets it down.
ducati multistrada servicing
Re: ducati multistrada servicing
the is nothing cheap about servicing a multi 1200 i own one. if you want it to hold its value or at least get some decent trade in value it has to have a full service history, perf.main dealer stamp, the main dealer will insist on doing every miner service too, get extended warranty, since the warranty ran out i have had keyless receiver fault, non start fault(coil stick), gear shift spring failure and to top it off the dealer said head gaskit failure on the front cylinder i disagreed and took the head off my self and had it tested to, porous head not head gaskit ,had to buy new head.so far this little lot has come £2450.most of the stuff i can do my self, belts i have to get done because there are harmonically tighten and most special tools i can make .apart from that when it runs its the best dam bike i have ever riden it always puts a smile on my face when riding.where is a link to a tech manual so you know what you are getting your self into http://www.madcogz.com/MSTD1200s/wsm/en/home.html also see ash on bikes the is a good article there on multi 1200.mine is 2011 with full service history 17,000 miles it was a main dealer approved bike from a top ducati dealer. hope this helps
