Which Sat Nav

Post by vRSG60 »

I'm ready to buy a Sat Nav for my F650GS, but there's so many out there I'm undecided as to which one.

Rupse

Unknown Brand

Peaklife
Which looks the same as -
Rage but smaller!

I have a full set of OS 1:50000 & :25000 maps (ahem). Ideally I'd like to use these as well as the route direction software supplied.

So, which is crap/good/recommended. Other than the tried and stusted and more expensive Garmin/TomTom route.

Works for me, got me all around europe and never failed me, gonna get me to Norway as well. Love the twisty roads option and at £60 not complaining.

For OS maps I use memorymap loaded on my Tab2

Out of those you have listed.

The first one is a rebranded peaklife. A few of these about.

The second is a rebranded rage.

So hopefully I've helped by shorting that list :)

The peaklife is simpler to get working with a copy of memorymap to use your existing maps. however, I believe it is discontinued (I tried to get a second cradle for mine and couldn't). For 89 quid though and what you get in the box it is great value. All the cables and mounts you need.

The rage has a better screen and the newer model but from what I hear is far more fiddly to get memmap working. Maybe someone with one can comment.

There's nothing wrong with a TomTom Rider that can't be solved with a tiny strip of tape over the correct terminal so you can change things without stopping and a plastic bag over the mount if you stop and remove the satnav in anything other than 100% dry conditions.

I ditched mine after less than a year and will be sticking with Garmin unless something radical happens to change my views on them.

I suppose its horses for courses and its whats suits you best. Personally I have been using TomTom Rider (1 and 2) for around 7 years now (I think) and love it.

I tried a Garmin Zumo 550 (I think) and didn't like it.

Personal choice!

I was looking a new sat nag too, seen the rage / peak life things and seen from a previous thread here there is a guy who sells one with the full European maps for a similar price as above.

However that TomTom has to be tempting!

Am I way out in thinking that a TomTom would be better than a PeakLife?
Boo :-p

I had a rider 1 and quite liked it, but if you want to do more and off road mapping look elsewhere.
Finally back on a GS :D
