Spiffing mag this month
Spiffing mag this month
Just wanted to say that issue 23 (July/August) is superb.
I love the mix of articles and I've still not read it all.
The Honda Cub story is a good one - Who would have thought that this bike heralded the introduction of 17" wheels?
I enjoyed Nathan's four bike shoot-out. Somehow, it gave us a different perspective on these bikes and it wasn't all 'fastest with most gadgets wins' which we often see in the bike press. For example, he highlights the very essence of the KTM1190 that makes it so good is also the thing that can make it less appealing on a long journey - the striking focus on performance. It was also nice to see an article on a Moto Guzzi in an ABR mag too - A first, perhaps?
The technical detail of the KTM690-450 was spot on and very interesting for me. Personally, I'd like to see more technical articles but I realise this may be outside the ABR brief and fair do's.
I could go on - the travel articles, CCM450 review etc. but I'll just say "WELL DONE" chaps!

Completely agree, great magazine!
Wonder if you could do a shoot-out of older bikes too. eg: what is a decent buy for 2K for distance/for off-road etc..

I agree this is the best mag I've had so far. The C90 bit was fun, the tech bit about the KTM690/450 was brilliant, the boot test was really thorough with a huge range.
I would also like to see a banger reviews. What should we buy with £1k, £2k etc. Common faults on common bikes and how to spot them when looking. How about a group test of panniers?
Anyway. The mag is well worth the subscription. Well done guys

And now, Harry, let us step out into the night and pursue that flighty temptress, adventure.

Re: Spiffing mag this month
I'd second the "pre-loved" bike reviews. I used to read Classic & Sportscar who do similar, very well it has to be said. They'll have a few studio shots of the featured car labelled to show common problem areas, then a few on the road shots for atmosphere, a couple of half column owner interviews and a column featuring specialist suppliers (who of course are also encouraged to take out paid for advertising. All in all adding up to 6 to 8 pages.
Obviously getting hold of test bikes is harder than for new as there's no manufacturer waving a press bike about, but there's a wealth of owner experience right here on this forum and a variety of bikes turning up to ABR meets. And it's a great way for readers to get involved even those who may not have an adventure to share.
Mind you it's yet more work for the ABR staff who hardly number in their hundreds and who sound like they're permanently rushed off their feet. Bravo to them all.
