Hi all,
Heading up to Rhayader for a weekend soon and wondering if anyone has any knowledge of the routes around Rhayader?
Ideally they should be fairly easy routes as I've only got limited greenlane experience.
I'd really like to do some that go up on top of the hills.
Any suggestions?
Cheers

Suspect that what you're riding and the weather will make more difference than your experience and skill level.
Maybe also wallet depth comes into it, as whilst I've seen big expensive BMW's do Strada Florida etc. would personally be terrified of dropping something like that!
There's some easy stuff not far south and east like Black Yat and the Shropshire hills etc that I do on a TTR 600, then other stuff nearer to Rhayader that I would only tackle on my WR 250!
What you probably need is a friendly local - if there's such a thing

the route around the north of the clarwyn dam is a fun one, but due to the remoteness and fact know-one is around- or likely to be around if you drop the bike and get pinned under it- only ride it if there is more than 2 of you on 2 bikes.
In the wet it's very slippery small sized slate pieces- it will put plenty of small nicks in your tires, but could puncture a tire with little tread.
I have the access road saved in me sat nav and will be leading a large grout up there in August on the V-strom owners meet, but, I'm not exactly local and it takes me 2 hours to get to Rhayader. The next few weeks I'm afraid will be in Salisbury playing around the trails with some boys from Adventurebikers.net

the Claerwen route is so dangerous and remote the postman drives his Pug van along it every day to deliver to the farms
ride a pace you are comfortable with for your skill
ride like theres a postvan around every corner
if you breakdown walk a few miles to the farms that are along the route
;)
i often ride it on my R30 moto on road tyres, we're in the UK not Unobtainia
or 'Charlie & Ewan' it and have 2 4x4s and a doctor

It's OK Rob, the support vehicle is in place (at the far end of the reservoir)....
OK it was a few years ago, 2006 if I recall. I was supporting a mountain bike event but you can see how benign the track condition is!
