Think I'm in agreement with the no drink approach - I don't trust myself, particularly with the raving loons that habit the roads round here. :woohoo:

thats when they catch most drinkdrivers these days, although when was the last time you saw a traffic cop? cameras wont catch anyone like that.

I NEVER drink drive... I don't condone it, especially in a car !! On a bike though, the only person you're "likely" to hurt is yourself unless you hit a pedestrian etc. I still don't condone it though.

I have ridden my bike completely bladdered. I was on the Argentinian/Brazilian border with an American friend when we got into a spot of bother where we were camped. We had to get out of there quick. We were totally trashed at the time but riding was better than the alternative ( I wont go into details).

We ended up riding around the town in the dead of night completely pissed out of our heads but laughing our heads off at the situation. The only thing that made it more acceptable to us is that there was a fiesta going on and all the locals were driving around in their big trucks completely pissed too.

Actually, this also happened in Tierra del fuego when the locals tried to triple the camping price after we had pitched up and downed rather a lot of local lagers... We packed up, gave them the finger and rode 40 miles offroad to a beach ! :blink:

In the latter situation, no one was going to get hurt but ourselves..

I am maybe biast as I do not drink, but if you are planning to drive / ride why even have a drink?

The UK legal limit for drivers is 80 mg of alcohol per 100 ml of blood, often referred to as a BAC or blood-alcohol concentration. This equates to (Roughly - as it depends on gender, body mass etc):

I think the majority agree Drink & Drive do NOT mix !!!!!

Anyone who gets caught D-D should have the book thrown at them. There is no excuse for flouting this law as it has very lethal consequences.

The UK limits are quite liberal and the 2 x pint rule is a definite maximum (depending on usual factors - beer strength, persons size, etc) and anyone who rides a bike is a fool if they actually have 2 x pints & ride :huh:

I do like a pint of proper ale now and again, and do NOT drink if on 2 wheels - but maybe a couple of times a year will have a lunchtime pint (1) with a meal if I know I won't be driving for a few hours, so I am not anti-alcohol.

I think the latest generation are used to the lack of "patrol cars" and realise they have little chance of being caught, unless they cause an accident :unsure:

Its the reason when you go to a biker pub on a weekday evening everyone is on coca cola and lemonade, probably why they charge £1.50+ for a small coke when it costs about 1p to make

Thinking about it, it might actually be the reason that country "biker" pubs are still going, if everyone turned up and just sat there they wouldnt have anywhere to go within a year.

So to conclude:

Because bikers drink lemonade and coke they manage to support the smaller country pubs who make better profit than from beer so can pay there bills and flourish rather than close down and a brewery sign appear stating "run your own pub..its great!" Who actually falls for the fact that if a pub has been a pub for decades and is continually changing hands then they will be able to make a success of it.

Brewery's charge a fee for opening up a pub again, usually tens of thousands but dont give it the poor soul back when it all goes pair shaped, so the fact that the pub fails mean the brewerys will get another pay out from the next person "mug" who dreams fo running a pub....

screw the pubs, greedy gits i went out last night walking round the village with some mates to several of those lovely 'country' pubs, and not one pint was less than £3. at those prices they can go bust for all i care, i'll brew my own or buy whats on offer at lidl they have some good deals on bottled real ales. thankfully pubs in town live in the real world.

for us a decent burger van or cafe has taken over from a pub for a rideout. instead we ride to box hill, the fish market at weymouth, fish and chips in lyme regis or brighton, alton cafe etc. those places are thriving
