I bought a Honda NC750X DCT yesterday and thought I should say a few words about it here on the “Adventure” forum. To put my comments in context, first some background.
Over the past 10 years or so I’ve done over 80,000 miles riding in Europe (N to S = Norway to Morocco and W to E + Wales to Greece). All with plenty of Adventure and all without leaving tarmac.
The ravages of aging forced the sale of my Blackbird which finally became too much for the old wrists and I also found that I did not use it’s awesome power and speed any more. Some years ago I had a Varadero XL1000 and wanted to get back to the upright posture again.
I have put 400 miles on my NC750X during yesterday and today, riding the wonderful roads of Wales and can say that I’ve found it 100% to my liking. From a touring perspective, it has more than adequate power and torque. 80 mph at 4,000rpm or 90 mph at 4,500rpm - so no shortage of pace for distance touring. I’ve had a number of extras fitted before taking delivery of which the MRA vario screen is undoubtedly tops for comfort. The DCT (automatic) is simply fantastic. Mind you, I only use the “Sport” setting as the “Drive” setting kills all enjoyment. What impresses me most is how it gears down in exactly the same way I would normally have geared down. It also means that you need not worry about hitting the rev limiter. Just open the throttle and she revs to the limit and then performs a silky smooth instantaneous upshift. This will seriously bring some welcome relief to my left hand when doing 10 hour days, day after day, when on tour. I also find the handling excellent, very light and well balanced with low centre of gravity. And all for relatively little money. I look forward to doing another trip to the Dolomites!
When I read comments like: “This is listed as a adventure bike by Honda but it is obviously a road going bike” it does make me smile.

Hiya Martin,
Welcome to the forum. Some great comments there and it's nice to see you found a bike that suits your needs perfectly. The best bike ever made is the one that 'you' want and love to ride! Too many people will try and tell us what bike we should ride and what's the best bike for 'adventure'. The very definition of 'adventure' has been debated to death here....
Good on ya

ive had a few rides on my mate's, pleasantly surprised.....it can hustle a bit as well, so easy to ride
Re: Honda NC750X DCT
I've not tried the 750, the 700 I found an absolute hoot to ride! I enjoyed it in the city and on open country lanes was also fun to ride.
Glad you're enjoying your latest.

Honda, the power of dreams.
Re: Honda NC750X DCT
my mate had the 700 then moved up to the 750...fair bit more grunt...i'd be tempted, would make a good all round solid laid back bike....not the auto for me though...

Well it won't be for everyone but I say don't knock it until you've tried it. Lots of super cars now employ the same system, a traditional gearbox with dual clutches with choice of paddle shift or just auto shift, it's a real technological marvel squeezing that into a bike engine. I had a Crosstourer for 18 months and put over 9k on it, the engine and the DCT gearbox was just simply amazing.chico wrote:but no clutch or gear lever.....just not my cup of tea...
