I don't mean to offend but isn't this like talking about whether you'd prefer a Hyundai I30 or a ford focus? Both bikes are great and competent ( owned a BM for a short while and ridden the Honda twice) but c'mon they are both pretty sensible snore machines that are built to a budget. The owner is more concerned with mpg figures and insurance premiums than getting his knee down or heading off RTW.
Both good, both dull, move on

I still mentally work my consumption out in mpg every fill up whenever I am riding somewhere using metric units and I leave my bike reading in imperial units but the satnav gets converted to metric just so I've got something to use in conjunction with the road signs.

The only reason I work out my fuel consumption is so I can have a rough guess at how many more stops before the end of the day and sometimes I'll ease off on the throttle and stretch out the tank range a bit to cut out one last stop.

Well it might be a boring the NC I bough one in November unfortunately if never ridden it due to illness , I only wish I could try to be boring????? . ps Franco picked up my bike from the dealers when he arrived at my home he said he he would consider one in the future ,cheers moto al I wish I was fit enough to be boring.he he

If the Honda were a shafty, I'd seriously consider it. Too many horror stories from too many sources for me to ever consider a BMW. Did have an old R80ST few years back - that bike was from when a BMW was still considered a quality bike. :woohoo:

Call me old fashion but MPG and analogue speedos work for me just fine!

Bummer Al, as I said, never wanted to offend or upset anyone. It's just that to me a bikes most important job is to excite and engage. Hope you get back on yours soon enough

Although personally I wouldn't use one (Yet?), I do like the DCT clutch system available on the Honda. Not a light bike though at 229kg with this system, ouch.

But the weight is all down low and hidden really well, it's also really well balanced, I can ride at 2mph and it's as steady as a rock.

The750 has an extra 75cc and the brakes are no longer linked .thats it

And a different seat

And an upgraded dash inc avg mph, 2 trip meters (that don't work but that's another story)

And the DCT software has been upgraded to fall in line with the extra BHP

And the addition of some kind of balance shaft for a smoother ride

And the engine casings are now black, not silver

And the indicators are now smoked.

Forget it Al, the NCX is definately not boring, unless you've just got off of a sports bike or something.

OK, admittedly I'm no speed demon, but my NCX is just fine and dandy for me, I love it immensely.

It is a nice bike, the Honda


I too love my bike - a G650GS Sertao...


Its capable off road, and at 30 -40Kg (?) lighter than the Honda - the weight can be as low down as you like - I'd argue that the sertao is low too... the 'location' of the weight means nowt when you're trying to pick it up put of a ditch, or you've tried to throw it over a dry stone wall - or turned it upside down in a Tarmac'd car park (Yes - upside down, at the Taffy Dakar... don't ask..) :whistle:

For all that its built to a budget - there's a reason why the Sertao and the previous Dakar are regularly seen in dark corners of the world - its because it can do it...

The Honda for me is a lot more road orientated and capable of a bit of green laning... A lovely bike non the less (thumbs)

The 650GS is good for commuting on, and getting minging... Its a great bike.. I've done a few ABR Rallies on mine and the Taffy Dakar etc, and its more than capable... Had a great time chucking all over the place at Walters Arena too no dramas there either... :woohoo:

Try and rally on it - and you'll need a new front fork set and suspenders - but if you're rallying - you're probably not going to buy a Sertao..

Basically - Will is right - your bike has to excite YOU!






And - you have to remember to fit folding mirrors - or you'll snap the left one off with your thigh - as you catapult your not inconsiderable frame over the front end when you chuck it down the side of a welsh hillside at speed! (Ouch)

That's good to hear, I'm obsessed with weight which isn't always a good thing. Must be why I don't like fat bottomed girls

I spend more time riding in mainland Europe and North Africa than in the UK, so what really pees me off with ALL BMW models is the inclusion of an old fashioned analogue speedo. I'm fine with an analogue rev counter, but the speedo needs to be digital so it can be switched easily between MPH and KPH.

Strangely enough I dislike the digital speedo on my BMW X Country (So not all BMW's are analogue ). With a traditional analogue one you can just glance at it and know your speed based on the needle position. On the digital one you actually have to read it. Just my preference though. Also the manual on my X Country says that to change it to KPH that I need to take it to a dealer to be reprogrammed, so it'll be a pain when I go to Europe as I'll rely on Satnav speedo.

Almost every bike/car that I've seen had kph and mph on the same dial so I find it preferable.

I wish I knew the answer to this, it drives me barmy too, but I've got used to it now
