Was married to a Welshpool wonder in my former life. Think she still lives there. Not going back just passing through. BTW got the bikes out of site when at the hotel, in a locked courtyard.

Another 'must do' road is the A4069 over the Black Mountain. If you are a fan of Top Gear you'll be familiar with this road as they use it a lot when filming road tests. Probably nicer from South to North for the scenery when riding. About three miles after the hairpin turn ride over to Trecastle for the A40. Good café in Sennybridge and whilst in the area worth going over the Epynt aka Sennybridge Training Area.

Hope you have a great time :)
Great road. It was my daily commute when I lived in Wales.
I've no idea how to add a signature.

+1 40 minutes ride to there from my house love llyn brianne. (thumbs) (thumbs)
+ one again for this road, its 20 mins from me and its the first choice when the bike comes out, head on up to Tregaron from the reservoir great run.. but don't miss out the Devils Staircase heading towards Abergwesyn.

Thanks for all the road suggestions, got a few routes planned.

Can anyone recommend any forest fire roads or easy unsealed roads to try?

Some good trails in the Brechfa Forest, Be careful though there are also lots of cycle routes so follow the correct signs.
