Brecon Beacons

Post by V650 »

Planning my first bike trip away in four years in May. :woohoo:

Overnight ferry to Portsmouth booked, arrive (early) Friday morning and depart back to Channel Islands on Monday afternoon.

Hoping to visit Wales and stay in Brecon Beacons area. Any tips for biker friendly campsites?

Also thinking of spending the day here: http://www.yamaha-tenere-experience.co.uk/ and hoping to find some nice roads to ride. :)

Any other recommendations?

Excellent site.
Just two minutes ride from the centre of the ancient town of Brecon.
Very biker friendly (I site my van there) and central for a lot of the best riding roads
in South Wales.

If you pm me the dates I'll take you out for a spin on some of the roads mentioned.

My favorite road pretty much in the entire united kingdom goes down the east side of the Llyn Brianne Resevoir, about 18 miles north of Llandovery.

Very nice area, I spend a fair bit of time around that area, nice little campsite just north of there is trericket mill, outdoor kitchen provided so no need to take any cooking gear.

A must do road is the top gear road A4059 from Hirwaun to A470, lovely little stretch but look out for suicidal sheep.

Good camping at the Ancient Briton pub on the A4067 in the Swansea Valley south of the Cray Reservoir, the venue for the Taffy Dakar.

Another 'must do' road is the A4069 over the Black Mountain. If you are a fan of Top Gear you'll be familiar with this road as they use it a lot when filming road tests. Probably nicer from South to North for the scenery when riding. About three miles after the hairpin turn ride over to Trecastle for the A40. Good café in Sennybridge and whilst in the area worth going over the Epynt aka Sennybridge Training Area.

Hope you have a great time :)
