12v attachment advice please

Can someone help me with this. I have a terminal at the front of my bike(like the photo) which is hard wired in (not direct to battery) and its for an optimiser. My question is could i just plug a 12v cigarette lighter attachment point into this (that has a fuse)so I can run a 12v point on my handle bar or will i have some sort of elecrical issue.

The simple answer is yes but you need to use a good quality accessory plug because it'll be permanently live and may not like it if rain pours in :dry:

Optimate do a 12V socket attachment that plugs straight into that socket.

I also fitted the same set up using the Optimiser socket, not 100% waterproof so careful where you fit it. I have mine for temporary use so can remove quickly or unplug if things are too wet, OK for mobile phone backup charger etc. Not many of these are waterproof when a socket is installed anyway so its a decent compromise solution.

Must admit that I do not find those optimiser plugs/sockets very reliable as the socket contacts tend to bend and go open circuit.
I personal would use a better quality plug and socket.

I have used that same style of plug to connect up all sorts of things, compresser, tent light, sat nav.
But the comments here are valid they corrode easily and the pins get broken.
I find the better solution is to use the Hella/BMW/KTM DIN type plug where it clicks into place it has a waterproof cover and is a positive secure fit as opposed to cig lighter style, I have leads that then connect to the optimate, or a standard cig socket and all the accessories I use now have the Hella plugs or the ones with the removeable red ring so you can use them in both types of socket

have used these exact couplings to connect my sat nav for over a year and had absolutely no problems. And it stands outside all year!
