Advice: Headlight deflectors abroad
Advice: Headlight deflectors abroad
Hiya
Apologies if this has been answered here before but I'm planning a bike trip in the summer to France and beyond (only Europe). I'm abroad regularly in cars and for my car I have headlight deflectors that I fit.
However, I've not seen headlight deflectors for bikes. Do they exist and if so are they model specific and where do I get one.
Many thanks

Re: Advice: Headlight deflectors abroad
In all my globetrotting years I have never used headlight deflectors on my bikes and have never encountered any problems either - that includes all over Europe, USA, Russia and Northern Africa.
Re: Advice: Headlight deflectors abroad
ive never used them in EU......the AA site has more detail,(not required) afaik, bike headlight is not specifically aimed enough to require any alteration

I could be wrong in this but I asked about right and left hand lenses for the K100 and was told there wasn't any difference, its the one lens.

nope never used one on my old ta650..sure the beam was central anyway..as long as lights are on the dont bother..just adjust down when loaded with luggage so it doent blind them..
just carry a spare front and rear bulb..if it goes you have one lol..but most places sell them..

Never used them either on any of my bikes in the eu. And admit I am conscious about dazzling people but always seemed ok. Failing that black tape!

That isn't just advice, legally you have to carry spare bulbs. Plus wear hi viz in some [most] countries, in France helmets must have reflective strips!! of, and in France these little breath test kits. You need two in case you have to use one of them.

Re: Advice: Headlight deflectors abroad
I use UK left-dipping lights on bikes a lot here. No problems at all if you ride only in daylight - ie risks are low. If you intend riding at night, you will cause glare for oncoming vehicles, you will be flashed and you MAY be done by police if stopped - ie there is a risk. Only you can decide a) whether you'll ride at night and b) if the risks are acceptable. You can simply fit tape as a beam deflector of course (as they do for imports in the UK for MOT), but knowing where to place them isn't always as easy as it sounds.
Greyhound Racing .... don't bet, don't go - you bet, they die

Mosel,
Are all bikes with left or right dipping? Its just when I asked about he K I was told they were the same. Having said that most bikes I had did have a left hand dip pattern, like all the old round sealed beam headlamps. I must go have a closer look at the lens on the K.

the high viz and spot n helmet law for france dont apply to uk/foreign bikers just their own..and the breath thingy was thrown out as the company owner was the politician pushing it through...see the French still chop folks heads off (thumbs) ..92kk k100lt 193214 wrote:That isn't just advice, legally you have to carry spare bulbs. A high viz maybe handy to carry if you like in case of a breakdown but I never bother ...and just wave at anybiker and they will offer what assistance they can be it Harley or sports bike..they are all the same.. B)
