Castles seem to be the most popular idea so far.
The perfect way would be to have 5 moderators. 1 from each Country to nominate the 10 castles in their country.
So we need a volunteer mod from
England
Scotland
Wales
Northern Ireland
Republic of Ireland
To make up the 50 castles
Any takers?
I'd be happy to nominate the 10 castles in Northern Ireland.

This sounds like a great idea! Northumbria and you are spoilt for choice when it comes to Castles.loudpedal wrote:Castles seem to be the most popular idea so far.

Castles sound good, as it gives you something to look at when you get there, but can we choose ones that only cost a few quid and only take 1/2 hour if you want to wonder around and have a look? For example, instead of Edinburgh Castle that costs £16 quid and takes half a day, Linlithgow Palace is 20 miles away, very pretty, costs £5.50 and takes 15-30 minutes.
I don't think it would be fair to do byways and green lanes, and not everyone on this forum has an off road bike or chooses to ride off road.

The ones I have in mind in N.Ireland are all easy to see and photograph from the roadside.
Some do charge for access, but that would be up to the rider.
All that is needed is a photo of your bike and the castle to prove that you were there.
In an effort to let you see quite a bit of Northern Ireland some castles would be ruins with no charge to wander about as long as you want to.

You don't need an off-road bike, just have to wait for the correct weather-Ralph- wrote:I don't think it would be fair to do byways and green lanes, and not everyone on this forum has an off road bike or chooses to ride off road.
You're probably right though, might be a bit discriminatory.
