Looks pretty good Al, if I was in the market for a new tent I'd buy it.

Compact pack size, looks strong and plenty of room for your gear.

+1 Terra nova ultra Quazar, had mine 20+ years, any conditions, still available at Cotswold i believe

In your price range I would go for a vango light weight and well made.

I have a Vango Alpha 300 which i used for 8 nights this year at the TT Race. Three man tent which was perfect for just one with gear for over a week. Its at the lower end of the Vango's but seems well made and went up easy, fairly small when bundled up too. I also took a basic square tarpaulin which i put down first to give a barrier against the wet - you never know how much it's going to rain and i was there for a week!

I will be coating it in Nikwax for next year just incase it pours it down. Better to be safe than wet through :cheer:

Similar designs are the Vango Hurricane / Chinook - bit more expensive. Sure I read about poor quality poles with Northridge, but seems to be the case with a lot of mid range tents these days. My ultimate tent would the Terra Nova Quasar but there serious ££££s.

I've had my Quasar for over 20 years now and it's survived being pitched at over 22,000 feet, screwed up and shoved into all kinds of bags, puked in, cooked in and generally abused and the only damage is a burnt mosquito net on one of the inner doors when I was drunk and threw a cigarette end out when it was shut and a broken pole connector from when I took the inner tent caving as a base camp bivvy and forced it through a gap where it really wasn't supposed to go.

When you work it out for times used against cost they're not really that expensive. I wouldn't swap mine for any other tent unless I was carrying it on my own at seriously high altitudes.

I've already got it's little brother the Ultra Voyager - it's been a great tent, must of had it getting on 18 years - but I keep it just for the mountains

I use the omegs 350 a ally pole verson of the bravo/beta.
Reason packs away light and big enough for 2iup and put all my paners in the tent out of the way of the sleep area too.

al got one of these. suncamp tarn 300. none of that crawling around on your knees,walk in. room in the front bit for four of you to have a wee dram or put your bike in.

Vango Omega 350, fairly small pack and light enough (for the bike) large porch, high waterproofing (5000 hydrostatic head)and well made.
