I'm not an Adventure rider are you?
I'm not an Adventure rider are you?
If you notice the title didn't say "adventure bike rider are you", it said "adventure rider are you" does that make a difference?

Re: I'm not an Adventure rider are you?
Having ridden all kinds of bikes over the years and hopefully will continue todo so. but life has a way of getting in the way for most of us . i ride all year round and whatever the weather. from spottie teen on chicken chasers to proper greasy haired hairy arsed biker to sports lunacy to what i am today .i like roads off road watching the racing from bsb to dakar to wsb and motogp . I think im just obsessed with 2wheel motorised contraptions.i have a 350lc festering in my garage and a 750popup katana awaiting my touch. I like camping hotels etc im at ease doing either.to me i just think im normal

GB, it sounds to me that you've done a fair amount of riding that others would consider adventurous. If however you don't feel it enough to satisfy you then I hope one day you get a chance to scratch your itch.GB wrote:If you notice the title didn't say "adventure bike rider are you", it said "adventure rider are you" does that make a difference?
As for trying to quantify what rides, destinations, bikes etc mean 'adventure' ..... Good luck with that

Just making conversation really, Will. I consider someone like yourself an adventure rider, but like you and others say some riders never leave their own county.

Ha! That's funny. Yes I've done a big ride and a fair bit out in Oz but I don't really think of myself as an adventure bike rider. It's weird, before we did our big trip I had a picture in my mind of the 'type' we'd meet on the road. Swarthy good looking youthsful tanned - you know the types, like all the brochure shots. Them or crazy old coots on knackered machines, living off road kill and drinking the water they collected off their tents...GB wrote:Just making conversation really, Will. Then back in the real world when 10 of us all met up by chance and were sitting around having a beer in Bangkok I tell you we looked like a right bunch of god knows what's. all riding different bikes all going in different directions. You are what you are-only in your head!
Cheers

Everyone has their own ideas as to want an adventure rider is.
I’ve ridden around Europe on my own and I see that as an adventure not adventurous because I didn’t know what was around the corner and there are so many what ifs. Yes I know it is only Europe and not the other side of the world.
But does that mean that these riders who pay to travel around the world with a guide and a large infrastructure to help them with their route and any mechanical problems are more on adventure or more adventurous than me?

Wheyhey! Somebody got there.Rhys wrote:Its all bullshit
I've broken down on what must be one of the most remote roads in the Scotland, 10 miles from civilisation and even further from a mobile phone signal, been told not to proceed down a road lest I get shot by bandits in Mexico, ridden between an armoured jeep and a personnel carrier in a civil war zone, and ridden along mountain ridges and narrow paths high enough to give you altitude sickness.
I've had some adventures, but I've never yet had the opportunity to take a year out and do the motorcycle adventure I've always dreamed of.
I don't consider myself an adventure rider. What defines that anyway? How far, how long, what type of terrain, what countries, political situations, danger levels, makes you an 'adventure rider'?
It's a pigeon hole which some people define, decide to place themselves in, then usually self proclaim themselves to belong to.
It's all bullshit indeed.
