I often wondered why to top of the tank was padded. Then one day I found out.

If you put an iron Triumph twin cylinder block in the top box to take it to be rebored, then you had to sit on the tank to keep the front wheel on the ground.

Years later I had a similar experience with 2 x 50 kg bags of cement in the boot of a Rover 216S!

I ended up with one bag of cement on the front passenger seat...the car was incapable of climbing hills with them both in the boot! A wheelie in a front-wheel-drive car is a surprising experience.

Every ride out I have is for pleasure, I dont go to work on the bike, so my bikes are for recreational use only.
I love every minute of my planned rides and spend most of my working week dreamin of the next ride out,
To me every ride is an adventure so yes i am an adventure rider, wether it be local green lanes or over the channel,
As for bike choice , well that means bugger all so long as it get me back home.

Had dozens and dozens of bikes over the years from motor crossers to Scooters to Super Adventurer Bikes to Big fat thumping VTwin Cruisers. I am simply a biker end of. I've ridden all over this country and around the world off road and on it. Like has been said before its just the latest Fad and soon something else will fill the gap. Why pigeonhole oneself??

I like to learn, to explore and to experience. I do this in the car, on a bike, on foot, by plane, by train, by TARDIS if I could

I am defined by who I am, not by what I do. I can never change who I am, but I change what I do many times during the day.

If someone wants to say "look there goes an adventure bike rider", that's their flawed opinion. They can think what they like, but they'll never know me or understand me and that makes them insignificant to me.

Strictly speaking if you ride an "Adventure Bike" you're an "Adventure Bike Rider" While you're riding it. Hop off it and onto your C90 and you become a C90 rider, get on a camel and you're a camel rider*.

Cunningly the magazine and forum use this term, so they're aimed at people who ride "Adventure Bikes" even if they never stray further than the M25 which of course is totally different from someone who is an "Adventure Rider" but rides a Honda CG125 on their adventures.




* Personally I'm looking forward to issue one of "Camel Rider Quarterly" but Alun may feel it's a niche too far.
