no mate, they never asked and theres not much about it in the booklet you get. its set up around adventure sports like skiing trips etc, so bike touring is a much smaller risk than that. the only thing it says is the usual "excludes participation in competitions, motorsports or racing". its worth a look anyway, we get family cover and it covers each individually or together.

Hopefully you read the small print. These policies are usually 'multi trip' which means you are only covered for around 45 days per trip. They also only cover for lower cc motorbikes. Only saying because 'Carol Nash' couldn't do this a couple of years ago, I wasn't insured for 11 months in my first year with them. That's why I went with Navigator. Bit more expensive but they covered worldwide, any bike, for a whole year.
Nope, I specified what I wanted and my policy documents state:

Policies are available for single trips up to 45 days. long stay trips up to 15 months or on an annual basis for multiple trips.

EDIT: Hold the phone, just read the policy and it written in as "Multi". I'm awaiting a call back. Doh !

EDIT 2: We're sorry sir we have mis-quoted you. F**k !.... We'll phone you back !

I've recently had ball ache with travel insurance. What companies are doing now is asking if your holiday has been booked independently, as in my case yes. I booked the flights, transfers and hotel. Apparently, that's classed as more of a risk and and put the price up by almost 50%! If I had booked online, it would of been a lot cheaper, but if I had to make a claim it quite possible I would not of been able.
I use carol Nash. I have a six wheel policy, and have been using them since 2000.

Whilst its reassuring to know that you have travel insurance, its interesting to see that bike size and cost are the main issues, what I would like to know is, Has anybody actually use their insurance for repatriation etc? I ask this as its no good having an 'all bells and whistles' policy that does not deliver. When an accomplished travelling book writer on here had good insurance after an accident I asked him afer his 'talk'who he was insured with, he told me that they have since gone broke! :( We really need recommendations from any unfortunate riders.

Hi folks back in 1999 one of our group had a serious accident in Spain.
We were all insured with Europe Assistance Insurance supplied through Brittany Ferries
the service was excellent and included paying all costs incurred by my mate who was hospitalised for weeks and included helicopter to hospital all hospital care and at the end he got an air ambulance from Granada back to Inverness in Scotland ! shudder to think what it all cost
they also covered all my extra expenses for staying behind with him inc B&B phone and changing the ferry date, his broken motorcycle was crated up and returned to Scotland as well
I see from Brittany ferries website that they still use this company

Glad it worked out ok for your friend, the quote below states that you would have had to have booked with Brittany ferries, do they do insurance seperately? I have not had time to read all their fine print yet.

Quote;Any Insurance is only valid with the Brittany Ferries booking reference and after payment of the appropriate premium.

The policy contains different levels of cover, some of which do not apply unless you have paid the appropriate additional premium.
